How To Install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean On HP TouchPad

SAM_5788In this guide we will show you how to install Android 4.1.2 on the HP TouchPad. You won’t loose webOS, this guide shows you how to install android while keeping webOS. The ROM used in the installation has working mic, camera, and video. By far this is the best Jelly Bean ROM for TouchPad, thanks to the XDA.

1. Before you go head and plug your HP TouchPad to the computer, you need to download these 2 main things.

  • Download Java  and Install it for your computer
  • Install Palm Novacom driver (Click on the link and download it. Once the download is complete open the file and click install navacom) If for some reason you can’t install the drivers through the first method than download this navacom for 32-bit or 64-bit.Unzip the file and run the .msi.  Be patient, it does take a bit for it to install.  After it’s done, you should see a Palm, Inc folder in your Program Files directory.

2. Now you need to download the next batch of stuff which includes ACMEINstaller, Moboot, ClockworkMod and gApps. Do not run any of these files, simply download them and save them to your computer. The steps below will tell you what to do with them.

3. After all your files are done downloading, place the ACMEInstaller3 in your Palm Program Files directory. Basically copy the file to this path: C:Program FilesPalm, Inc . Do not copy anything into this directory besides ACMEInstaller3. (check screenshot below for confirmation)

acmeinstall copy4. Connect your HP TouchPad to the computer via usb cable, make sure you are on webOS. Once your TP is connected to the computer properly, a notification will popup on the upper-right corner. The notification will say “Tap to Enter USB Drive mode.” Touch on the notification to basically enter as USB drive mode. Once you tap on it your computer will detect the TP and now you can access the device’s files. (check picture below for confirmation)

tp

5. Go to the TouchPad drive from file explorer and make a new folder. Give the name “cminstall” to the folder (without quotes). Now copy these files to the cminstall folder that we just made:

  • update-CWM6_tenderloin.zip
  • OaT_LnTJB_0317.zip
  • OaT_GApps_JB_1011-s.zip
  • moboot_0.3.5.zip

snap folder6.  After copying the files, eject (unmount) the TP from the computer. Its time for the main part! Now what we have to do is shut down the TP completely. After shutting it down, put your hand on the up volume button and hold it while pressing the power button together. Don’t move your hands from both buttons until you see a big USB sign. If you get the the USB sign than you have done it properly. If not please go back and do it again.

7. Now to the difficult part. Navigate to the palm directory in the program files which can be found in your C drive. Do not double click on the “Palm, Inc” folder. Simply click once to get the directory highlighted. After highlighting the “Palm,Inc” directory, hold the shift button on your keyboard and at the same time right click on the “Palm,Inc” directory. Basically hold the key and click at the same time on the folder. Once you right click you should see a option called “open command windows here.” I suggest check the screenshot below for better understanding.

cmd promt step

8. If you followed the above step properly than you should see a cmd window open. (check the image below). Now lets run the ACMEInstaller3. In the cmd window don’t do nothing besides entering this line “novacom.exe boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller3″ (without quotes). Check if the line matches with the one in quotes and press enter after that. Once you press enter the TP will have random lines of code running on the screen, give it a few minutes and it will reboot automatically. It took me around 10 minutes for it to finish. Don’t touch or unplug while the code is running. If this step doesn’t work for you than I suggest uninstalling navacom drivers and re-install them. Make sure to follow the above steps exactly as stated.

cmd step29. If everything goes well than the TP will start and you will be taken to the Moboot menu.

  1. From the Moboot menu, choose ClockworkMod. Use the volume keys to go up and down. press the home button to enter.
  2. After entering clockworkmod, use the volume keys to scroll down to the directory that says “install a zip from SDcard” and press the home button to select.
  3. Then select “choose zip from sdcard” and press home button to enter.
  4. Now select the “cminstall” directory and press home button to enter.
  5. Select “OaT_LnTJB_0317.zip” and press home button to enter.
  6. select “yes install” and press home button to enter.
  7. The ROM will begin to install, give it a few minutes.
  8. after its done installing press “go back” and “reboot system now”
  9. Once rebooted you will see the option “boot CyanogenMod”
  10. It will take couple minutes to load than you are all set with Android Jelly Bean on the TP!
  11. Last thing, Follow the same steps to install “OaT_GApps_JB_1011-s.zip”. This will get you Google Play Store.

I'm stuck in download manager, bot, adware, spamware hell - with the f*ing download managers to get the files.  Why can't people use the 50GB that Box.com gave us Touchpadians to host the OaT_LnTJB_1222 file?  Really I have to use iLivid?  and it doesn't get this file?  Grrr... anyone willing to put it on Box or something without a Download Manager?

Be advised: Once you enter the command novacom.exe boot mem:// < ACMEInstaller3 it can take a few minutes for the lines of code to show.  The article gives the impression that it should start immediately.

@tvwad do a hared reset, hold the power button + home button  for a minute, it should shut down and then restart it. if it opens webOS normally than android didn't start

@stevehilsley Download the apps folder from the link above and restart the tablet. When restarting select the menu option Colckware Recovery Mode and then install zip from SD, find the app pack downloaded in the Download folder and flash that.

No you can follow it for Cm7/CM9 since you will need ACME3 installer.

@alfrazhaq96 the only one I'm missing is the actual ROM ... OaT_LnTJB_1222 -- the others seem to have downloaded fine.
